Open Access: Same-Day Mental Health & Substance Use Intakes

Walk in. Get seen. Start healing.

Open Access makes it easy to begin services without waiting weeks for an appointment. Whether you’re seeking mental health support, a substance use evaluation, or both, you can start the process the same day by walking into any Heartland Counseling Clinic during Open Access hours.

Our team will guide you through a confidential intake, answer questions, and help you access the services that fit your needs.

What You Can Expect During Open Access

Mental Health Intake

A mental health intake helps us understand what you’re experiencing and what type of support will help you move forward. During this visit, you can expect:

  • A conversation with a licensed clinician
  • Screening for symptoms such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or other concerns
  • Discussion of your goals and treatment preferences
  • Recommendations for therapy, medication management, or other services

Substance Use Evaluation

A substance use evaluation provides a professional assessment of your relationship with alcohol or drugs and identifies the level of care that best supports your recovery. This may include:

  • A confidential interview with a licensed alcohol and drug counselor
  • Screening tools used for court, probation, or personal needs
  • Recommendations for outpatient treatment, intensive services, residential treatement or other supports
  • Documentation for legal or employer requirements, when applicable

What to Bring

To help us get you started quickly, please bring:

  • A photo ID
  • Insurance card (if you have one)
  • Any court, probation, DHHS or employer paperwork (if applicable)

If you don’t have insurance, we have a sliding fee scale available to those who qualify and do not have insurance coverage. Please plan to provide income information to help us determine eligibility.

After Your Intake

Once your intake or evaluation is complete, we’ll help you:

  • Schedule your first therapy appointment
  • Refer to medication management or other providers if needed
  • Connect with community resources
  • Understand next steps for court or employer documentation

Our goal is to make starting services simple, supportive, and stress-free.
